The word azha means sacrifice. And sacrifice means proximity, proximity. It is clear from the above words and meanings that the attempt to attain nearness to God through renunciation or abandonment is called Eid-ul-Azha or sacrifice.
Sacrifice in the conventional sense is the slaughtering of animals on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha between the 10th and 12th of the month of Jilhaj on behalf of a person to gain the satisfaction of the great Lord Almighty.
Allah the Almighty says in Surah Hajj: "I have ordained for every community a sacrifice." (Surah Hajj: verse 34)
in sura kawter allah says so pray to your loard an d offer sacrifice ( sura kawser)
The purpose of the sacrifice
Sacrifice is a unique means of gaining the pleasure of Allah. The provision of sacrifice was introduced from the time of the original father Adam (AS). Adam's two sons, Abel and Cain, both sacrificed. The sacrifice of one of them was accepted by Allah and the sacrifice of the other was not accepted. The history of sacrifice on earth begins here.
The Qur'an says: After the sacrifice of one of the two sons of Adam (peace be upon him) was accepted, Cain (whose sacrifice was not accepted) said: I will surely kill you. Another, Abel (whose sacrifice is accepted) said, "Surely Allah accepts the sacrifices of the pious." If you stretch out your hand towards me to kill me, I will not stretch out my hand against you to kill you.for i fare allaha the loard of the worlds '(Surat al-Ma'ida: 27-28)
This verse refers to the emotions and mentality of the person accepting the sacrifice. Because the sacrifice is a unique sign of attaining the pleasure of Allah for the pious people.
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah Ta’ala says: ‘I have made sacrifice a part of worship for every community. So that when they slaughter the cattle which have been given to them as means of subsistence, they utter the name of Allah and always remember that Allah is their only God. So surrender to Him completely. And give glad tidings to the devoted ones, those whose hearts tremble at the mention of Allah, those who are patient in the face of adversity, establish the prayer, and give from the means of subsistence which I have provided. '(Surah Hajj, verses 34-35)
From this verse it is understood that sacrifice has been made a part of worship for Muslims. And it has been said that one should give up the cattle which has been given to him as a means of subsistence and surrender to Allah with a satisfied heart.
The practice of sacrifice in today's Muslim society is mainly from the path shown by the father of the nation, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). The child that Allah Ta'ala gave him after the centenary of the life of Hazrat Ibrahim (a.s.), the piece of heart which was given to Hazrat Ishmael (a.s.) by the command of Allah Ta'ala and that sacrifice is still practiced today.
Then Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to his son Ishmael, ‘O son! I dreamed that I was beating you. What is your opinion on this? He (Hazrat Ismail Alaihis Salam) said, ‘Father! Do what you are commanded to do. By the will of Allah, you will find me among the patient. '(Surah As-Saffat: verse 102)
Then Allah Ta'ala said, ‘Remember, this was a clear test. I gave him the opportunity to make a great sacrifice. I made the whole thing memorable from generation to generation. Greetings to Ibrahim. thus do we reword the dores off good '(Surah As-Saffat, verses 107-110)
Allah Ta'ala has tested Ibrahim (AS) by ordering him to sacrifice his son. When he succeeded in that test, Allah Ta'ala was pleased and rewarded Ibrahim (AS) by slaughtering another animal instead of Ishmael. And in this way Allah rewards every honest worker.
God commands His servants to sacrifice and see if His servants are willing to give up what He has given. He also observes the intentions of his servants.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: On the Day of Sacrifice, no good deed of a human being is as dear to Allaah as sacrificing. And the horns, fur and razors of the sacrificial animal will be added on the Day of Resurrection. The blood of the sacrificial animal reaches the court of Allah before it falls on the ground. So sacrifice with joy. (Tirmizi)
Therefore, the sacrifice of the Muslim Ummah should be the slaughter of the animal and the amiability of the mind in order to gain the pleasure of Allah by slaughtering the animal, not the sacrifice of showing off. Sacrifice is also one of the means to develop oneself as a pious person.
